Founder Judy Cheung Wood looks back at her journey, credits persistence and the drive to improve others’ lives as key success factors for the brand
MELBOURNE, July 2021 – This month, skinB5 will celebrate its twelfth year in business, with this year off to a particularly exciting start as the brand receives TWO international awards and continues to experience rapid growth since its inception in 2006.
SkinB5’s story began after its founder, Judy, made a discovery that would help her acne prone skin and change her life as she knew it. After spending thousands on unhelpful treatments, she stumbled upon a medical paper citing the use of high potency vitamin B5 to combat acne. She purchased some on her own as a last ditch effort to clear her acne. It worked.
This discovery had such a profound effect on her skin that in 2006, she launched her first product: a mango and strawberry flavour multivitamins powder drink containing high potency vitamin B5. In 18 months, a full skincare range was launched to provide a completely holistic, inside-out system, and by 2010, improved the flagship vitamin supplements with the development of tablet and capsule formulas.
By 2015, a patent was obtained, and in 2019 the Next-Gen range was launched to include a wide range of Australian botanicals, with a focus on being as natural as possible with no nasties or side effects.
Judy says customer feedback and significant research and development have been key in creating a full skincare regiment that works for 80% of users within 4 weeks of the recommended dosage.
“It’s taken many years of tweaking, innovating these products and genuinely listening to what our customers are saying that has allowed us to make a truly impactful product,” she says.
“I’ve been in the shoes of my customers where it almost feels hopeless. That’s why I’m so passionate and persistent about getting the best results possible. I think this is the reason we stand out and have been successful in this market.”
Looking ahead at the next milestone, Judy and the skinB5 team is excited to continue the momentum and expand their export activity to improve skin, self-confidence, immunity, energy & stress response to as many customers as possible globally.
In addition to two new awards under their belt and skinB5 being nominated in FOUR categories for the Wellbeing Magazine Be-YOU-T Awards, SkinB5’s founder Judy Cheung-Wood has been nominated for the 2021 national AusMumpreneur Awards.
The AusMumpreneur Awards celebrate and recognize Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
There are many benefits to balancing business and motherhood as Judy explains, “I founded skinB5 to help acne suffers overcome the pain of teenage and early adulthood acne, and gain their confidence again to thrive. Being a mother definitely gives me that strong nurturing instinct and drive to ensure our products actually work to enable our customers live a freer and happier life”.
